Two fairly big announcements from First Avenue this week:
X-Games Pre-Show (July 13)
The club will host a special warm-up gig for the big knee-skinning activities taking over the grounds of U.S. Bank Stadium that weekend, and it’s a party that Rhymesayers fans probably won’t want to miss. Hometown favorite Prof and longtime Rhymesayers affiliates Aesop Rock and Rob Sonic – who’ve each repeatedly filled the club on their own — will pair up for the concert with the label’s rising young star Dem Atlas opening. Tickets go on sale to the public Friday at noon through eTix and First Ave outlets for $25 and are likely to sell out fast. Rhymesayers’ flagship act, Atmosphere, has already confirmed as one of the headliners at the X-Games that weekend, along with Flume and A Day to Remember.
All-Minnesota Concert at Bayfront Park (July 8)
With Trampled by Turtles on hiatus for the year, the Saturday-after-the-Fourth date that usually belongs to Duluth’s hometown heroes at the city’s unbeatable waterfront amphitheater will be handed off to Hippo Campusand Poliça, with Low also braving the half-mile commute down the hill to return to the event. Newcomers Remo Drive and J.S. Ondara (aka Jay Smart) will also perform. Those tickets go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. for $25.
